Inyo County is the second largest county in California by area. The county borders the state of Nevada, San Bernardino, Kern, Tulare, Fresno and Mono Counties.
Inyo County has the distinction of being home to the highest peak in the contiguous United States and also home to the lowest point in North America (Mount Whitney and Death Valley).
Inyo County's industry is primarily hospitality, tourism and recreation. It is most rural towns.
There are two areas within Inyo County and each of these areas has a distinctive style of living and has its own architecture and in some cases cultural differences. Inyo County is bordered on the West by the Sierra Nevada Mountains and on the East by Death Valley and the State ofNevada. The major cities in these two areas are:
